My name is Carly Johnston. I am a registered dietitian nutritionist in the southeastern Massachusetts area specializing in weight management and wellness.
My interest in the nutrition field began in my high school health class where I learned of the growing rate of obesity among children and adults in the United States. Growing up in a household where a variety of nutritious, home cooked meals were provided to me daily, I couldn’t believe that fast food and take out were staples for some families. As the daughter of a pediatric nurse, I always knew I wanted to be in the healthcare field, however, this class made it clear which area I wanted to pursue.
With the goal of becoming a dietitian, I received my Bachelor’s degree in nutrition and dietetics from the University of Rhode Island. I became a diet technician, registered and worked at Hasbro Children’s Hospital and Rhode Island Hospital for 2 years before applying for my dietetic internship. My internship consisted of the completion of 1248 supervised clinical hours with Sodexo Dietetic Internships at their New Bedford Campus with a concentration in weight management. During that time I also obtained my Master’s degree in applied nutrition from Northeastern University with a concentration in obesity and weight management.
I use a personalized approach for every client in order to find what works best for them and their bodies. I don’t believe in diets and like to encourage my clients to develop sustainable lifestyle choices that work for them. Together we will come up with a plan that works best for YOU and your lifestyle. I will help you come up with realistic goals to reach each week so we can slowly develop a more sustainable lifestyle. If something isn’t working, we will take a step back and come up with a new plan.
